Happy holidays from the Boyles: Tonia, Natalie, Evan and Alan (plus Bijou and Rosie)

What a year it's been!

Alan marked his 15th year at MSNBC.com, and he's still science editor, presiding over Cosmic Log and the @b0yle Twitter account as part of his duties. One of the highlights was being on hand for the last space shuttle mission in July.

Tonia is still co-president of the Hoe and Hope Garden Club, and she's preparing for a big landscaping project in 2012. Last February, we went to South Carolina to celebrate her dad's 90th birthday, and returned for a sadder occasion in June when Norm passed away.
Natalie is finishing up work on her master's degree in entomology from Washington State University. One of the highlights of her year was a trip to Hawaii in March to give a presentation at an entomology meeting about the effects of pesticides on bee broods.
Evan is studying biology at the University of Washington. In March, he traveled to the Midwest with Alan and paid a visit to Grandpa Boyle in Iowa. Evan has been spending a lot of his spare time helping with research at the Gelb Lab. (He switched to the Shendure Lab at the end of the year.)
Bijou and Rosie accompanied Alan and Tonia on their 25th wedding anniversary trip to a charming bed-and-breakfast on the Oregon Coast. A lovely time was had by all ... even the dogs.

Here's wishing you many more lovely times in 2012, and not a hint of a Mayan apocalypse!
