Last year our Christmas was consumed by Y2K, but this year we're back in the spirit....

Here's some of the evidence: scenes from this year's U-cut tree expedition to North Bend, Wash.

Alan is still plugging away as science editor at MSNBC.com ... focusing on things like space exploration, quantum mechanics and the fossil record despite the distractions of Elian, the Olympics and dimpled chads.

Tonia is plugging away as well: After a decade of dreaming, she's working on the design for a new kitchen that should become a reality in 2001.

Natalie is in the eighth grade ... she's hooked on shopping and hanging out with friends, but she manages to get in a little flute-playing and cartooning as well.

Evan is in fourth grade and is hooked on math, reading and video games. He's looking forward to "Banjo-Tooie" this year.

Toby is still about as lovable as a Norfolk terrier can be ... no signs of slowing down. But we regret to report that our senior canine, Higgins, passed away ...  may he rest in peace.

We wish we could be with you all and hope to keep posted on all your odysseys in 2001. Have a blessed holiday and a wonderful New Year!

Tonia and Alan select a tree to cut.

Child labor is employed to carry the tree out.

Ta-da! The finished product lights up the night.

Merry Christmas from Tonia, Evan, Toby, Natalie and Alan.
